September Festive Holidays: As September moves forward, many people are planning their festive shopping, family gatherings, and financial activities. But before stepping out to visit your nearest bank branch, it’s important to know that this week banks will remain closed on multiple days across different cities. Since festivals like Navratri and Durga Puja are being celebrated across India, several regions will observe bank holidays, along with the regular weekend offs.
Bank Closures Begin with Navratri Celebrations
On Monday, September 22, the festive spirit of Navratri marks the beginning of this week, and in Jaipur, banks will remain closed due to the establishment rituals of the festival. The following day, Tuesday, September 23, banks in Jaipur and Srinagar will observe a holiday on the occasion of Maharaja Hari Singh’s birth anniversary.
Weekend Holidays Across the Country
Later in the week, Saturday, September 27 will bring the nationwide closure of banks, as it is the fourth Saturday of the month—a standard RBI guideline. This will be immediately followed by Sunday, September 28, which is a weekly holiday across the country.
Durga Puja Brings More Holidays in Different States
The festivities continue into the last days of the month. On Monday, September 29, banks in Agartala, Kolkata, and Guwahati will remain closed for Maha Saptami celebrations. The very next day, Tuesday, September 30, several cities including Agartala, Imphal, Guwahati, Jaipur, Kolkata, Patna, and Varanasi will see banks closed again, this time for Maha Ashtami or Durga Ashtami.
Online Banking and ATM Services Will Remain Active
While physical bank branches may remain shut, customers need not worry about their financial needs. Online banking services like internet banking, mobile banking, UPI payments, and other digital transactions will continue to work seamlessly. ATMs will also remain operational round the clock, ensuring that cash withdrawals won’t be a problem during the holidays.
RBI and State Governments Decide Bank Holidays
It’s worth noting that the Reserve Bank of India (RBI), in collaboration with state governments, prepares the official list of bank holidays each year. This list includes national holidays as well as local festivals that vary from state to state. The notifications are issued on the RBI’s official website for the convenience of the public.
So, if you’re planning any in-person bank work, it’s wise to keep these dates in mind to avoid any last-minute trouble.
